Gili Trawangan –
The day starts quite early for me. While the beachroad is quite busy during the day, Gili T. looks deserted at sunrise. I walk along the beach and get an early chance to take some photos. I feel much better today compared to yesterday… Since I am already near the office for the watertaxis I check the departing times – unfortunately the boat is fully booked for tomorrow morning. The next one is scheduled for 15:00. This could give me time for another scuba dive. After having breakfast with Elke we get us the watertaxi tickets and walk to the meeting place for the snorkeling. While we still have to wait a little for some guys arriving late, I briefly go to Manta Dive next door to put my name on the list for tomorrow’s dive at Manta Point.
Since snorkeling tours are offered by many organizers, the people get simply split up for the available boats and and go successively to the different spots at Gili Air and Gili Meno. There is a short break on Gili Air for having lunch in between all the spots we visit. To me, Gili Air seems to have a much quieter atmosphere like Trawangan. Air in high-season is probably comparable to Trawangan in the off-season.
Altogether the tour is great and you can even get so see lots of Parrotfish and Turtles… there is a downside to that: The chumming with bread. This is definitely not good for the fish .
I get into a conversation with a few other people on the boat who have already been on Java and we exchange infos – among other things about the food on Gili T. I should definitely try the burgers from “The Roasthouse”…
After having a small siesta in our bungalow, we decide to try out this restaurant which is right next to the nightmarket. Nice to have something else to eat – and these burgers are really delicious. Since we are already half way to the Sunset Viewpoint on the hill, we decide to do it like yesterday and spend the evening there. There is more going on today at the campfire site and we can have some interesting conversations. While on our way back we make a brief stop at “La Dolce Vita” right next to “The Roast House” to buy some croissants for dessert and breakfast tomorrow. There are really lots of flavors to choose from: Chocolate, nutella, strawberry, sirsa, caramel, vanilla… While the croissants are being wrapped up I watch the bakers working through the glass front: Wow, Nutella is treated like liquid gold here. No drop gets spilled .
