San Cristobal (Galapagos) –
Puerto Baquerizo Moreno
I get up quite early today – maybe I can take some lightpainting photos in the Wreckbay… Unfortunately I have no luck – the blue hour close to the Equator lasts maybe just a few minutes .
Nevertheless, I take some photos before going back to the hotel. Ena is already awake and we make ourselves on the way to the breakfast hall downstairs – it seems that we are the only 2 guests here, yet that doesn’t mean that there will be less variety for breakfast – a really opulent breakfast awaits us .
Muelle Tijeretas
Since our boat leaves for Santa Cruz only in the afternoon, we decide to walk via the station from the Interpretation Center to the bay “Muelle Tijeretas” – countless sea lions and some turtles gather here.
Especially the sea lions don’t seem to be bothered by the human visitors – they play calmly in the water and like to climb on the small jetty where they simply look for a place to bathe in the sun among the many people.
Definitely a place to visit here!
We carefully climb into the water and try not to step on all the sea urchins – a few minutes later we are surrounded by sea lions. Above the bay there is a small viewpoint with a statue of Darwin surrounded by a number of animals – from up here you can even see Kicker Rock !
At some point we have to go back to get our stuff from the hotel – the speedboat to Santa Cruz departs in about 1 hour… While we wait at the pier for the boat, we sit down in a bar and order ice-cold freshly pressed juices – just the perfect thing now… it is already getting quite warm.
Eventually we hear a harbour worker announce that the speedboat has arrived – we take our backpacks and leave for Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz (Galapagos) –
Puerto Ayora
Once again we have to take a taxi boat (2 USD) on our arrival – I simply can’t understand it – you could easily dock?
The “Hostal Espana” is relatively centrally located – in general also ok, but nothing special – nevertheless the best choice, as our previous hotel is fully booked.
Well, we have to stay here for one night.
We boot to the dive center to do an equipment check before we will depart in the morning. We will also have lunch on the boat tomorrow – there is also a gluten-free option for Ena. When asked if I have allergies I answer with “I don’t like tomatos but I won’t drop dead if I eat them “
Before returning to the hotel, we make a stop at “Planet Galapagos” – the cocktails just look very inviting. We each order a Daiquiri Piña but get a Fresa by mistake. That’ okay, strawberries are “exotic fruit” here.
Then we go back to the hotel for a shower and relax. As soon as I leave the shower and lie down on the bed I fall asleep. I just wanted to close my eyes for a moment.
Ena wakes me up about an hour later. “Otherwise you will be hungry in the middle of the night!” Great. I was sleeping soooo nicely…
We drag ourselves back to Planet Galapagos where we order delicious chili pollo giant burger. This time also with a Piña Daiquiri. The night won’t be too long today – we get to bed early.

Wow, this is so cool! I’ve sea lions in San Francisco, and it’s not that close. Then seeing this snorkeling with sea lions, that’s an amazing feeling
I just love watching sea lions and can only imagine the experience it would be snorkeling with them. Happy to discover Muelle Tijeretas for the first time here. The pictures are fantastic and I have heard that sea lions are calm. Whats surprising that they were not bothered by humans around. May be by now they are quite used to it
Wow. Beautiful pictures. These sea lions are so cute! Would really love to go and sit next to one as i am afraid to snorkle.
We are always looking for new places to snorkel and scuba dive. We would love to visit a place like Muelle Tijeretas to find sea lions and turtles. It is good to know they are not disturbed by your being in the water.
Wow, what an experience. Galapagos is so high on my bucket list. Would love to just hang out with sea lions. They are like crazy pups!

What an adventure! I think your photos are admirable, even if the blue light lasts only a few moments.
